U.S. Team = UConn= Gold

The U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team remains undefeated in two decades, steamrolling over France (86-50) to win gold, again. Six former University of Connecticut players are playing for the USA Women’s Basketball Team. The head of the USA Team, Geno Auriemma, is also the head coach for UConn. Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, Asjha Jones, Swin Cash and Tina Charles all played for UConn within the last decade. Yani Carter has this story for Metrowest Daily News.


BU Alum Wins Gold

An Olympian is a rare breed of athlete. But Olympic Gold Medalists are in a league all their own. Boston University Alum, Florian Mennigen, was a member of the German men’s eight boat crew that placed eighth at Beijing. Four years later, Mennigen won gold in London. The former Boston University rower speaks to BU students and Boston.com Interns Megan Happ, Amy Gorel and Emily Zendt about his experience and what the gold medal means.


Harvard Grad in Open Water Swim

Former Harvard swimmer Alex Meyer places tenth in the open water swim event at the Serpentine, Hyde Park London. The U.S. Olympian used to train at Walden Pond. Marie Torto, Emily Zendt and Megan Happ have this report for Boston.com
